At askdave.ai, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We've kept it human-readable because legal jargon helps nobody.

When you use Ask Dave, we may collect:
- Chat messages — What you send to Dave and what Dave replies. This is needed to make the service work and to provide conversation memory for paid users.
- Account information — Email address, name, and payment details if you sign up for a paid plan.
- Usage data — Basic analytics like page views, which Dave personality you use, and message counts. No creepy tracking.
- Device information — Browser type, device type, and IP address for security and troubleshooting.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the Ask Dave service and process your messages
- To remember your conversations (paid plans only)
- To process payments
- To improve the service
- To send you important service updates (not spam)
3. What we DON'T do
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
- We don't use your conversations to train AI models.
- We don't share your personal information with third parties for marketing.
- We don't show you ads.
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate Ask Dave:
- OpenAI — To power Dave's AI responses. Your messages are sent to OpenAI's API for processing. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Stripe — To process payments securely. We never see or store your full card details.
5. Data retention
- Free users: Chat messages are not stored permanently. They exist only during your active session.
- Paid users: Conversation history is stored to provide the memory feature. You can request deletion at any time.
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account closure.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — ask us what we have
- Delete your data — we'll remove it within 30 days
- Export your data — get a copy of your conversations
- Opt out — stop using the service at any time, cancel anytime
7. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure payment processing via Stripe, and access controls on our systems. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
8. Australian Privacy Act
We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you believe we've breached the APPs, you can lodge a complaint with us at hello@askdave.ai or with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or a notice on the site.
